Ro3kvit: Urban Coalition for Ukraine develops knowledge and methodologies for rebuilding Ukraine’s urban and rural environment and infrastructure. Ro3kvit: Urban Coalition for Ukraine supports the idea of participatory planning, and not only for the reconstruction of ruined cities. Therefore, a rather large team of Ro3kvit: Urban Coalition members has been working on a Public Participation Handbook of Urban Planning to help communities, planners and policymakers to work together. The Handbook will be presented online on June, 22.

Our effort is to spread awareness as well as the actual implementation of participatory planning in practice. Besides basic information about participation in general, NGOs, community leaders, government staff and officers can learn about the processes and benefits of participatory planning. In the handbook, we shared tools and strategies to make planning easier for everyone, as well as examples of participatory planning from abroad, and successful cases from Ukraine that are an inspiration for all of us.

In preparation of this handbook, Ro3kvit: Urban Coalition for Ukraine joined forces with our American partner organization URAG: Ukraine Rebuilding Action Group, who helped create a participatory planning manual with Ukraine’s context and the history of its spatial planning. Ukrainian partner – 3MIN Foundation – will support the dissemination of the handbook between the Ukrainian communities.
