About the lecture:
The lecture explores urban recovery as a participatory bottom-up process that recovers spaces of shared memories and social significance to reconstitute both the built as well as the sociocultural fabric of a place. The lecture focuses on the neighborhood of Karantina (Beirut, Lebanon) as the case study of post-disaster recovery. Karantina is a site of multiple traumas and marginalized vulnerable groups, whose conditions were further exacerbated by the port blast in August 2020. The lecture examines the multi-modality of community engagement including the CDS, citizen scientists and the co-design methodologies.
