About the lecture:
During the seminar “Learning from Urban Resilience International” students explored the concept of „urban resilience“ and learned how to apply it in their work. The main focus was on the environmental, economic, and social aspects of this concept, as well as on analyzing international experience. Participants attended a series of lectures, worked with academic sources, and completed practical tasks. In the final part, they will present the results of their research and propose recommendations for the sustainable development of Ukrainian cities. These recommendations are based on examples from cities such as Sendai, New Orleans, Helsinki, Rotterdam, Jerusalem, and Freiburg.
The studio “Integrated Urban Development Planning and Design”, part of the Chernivtsi-Mannheim city partnership, brought together students from five Ukrainian universities and, for one workshop, from two more German universities, alongside experts, lecturers, and city administrations, to address development challenges shaped by the unique landscape, general planning situation, and the ongoing war. The final presentation will feature concepts for revitalizing the area around Chernivtsi‘s main railway station and improving its connection to the historical center. This area is a critical hub due to the influx of IDPs and the current lack of a proper station square. Collaborative workshops in Chernivtsi and Mannheim, as well as online sessions, enabled participants to analyze, envision, and design concepts as practical solutions for Chernivtsi’s urban needs.
The lecture will be recorded and subsequently provided on the panforukraine learning platform: https://futurelearnlab.de/hub/enrol/index.php?id=317 (registration needed).
