As part of the DAAD program Ukraine digital, a workshop of the Urban Resilience Seminar ‘Learning from urban resilience international – transfer points for Ukraine’ took place in Kyiv from 1 to 2 November 2024. The workshop was held at the Faculty of Urban and Spatial Planning at KNUCA in Kyiv. Participants were Ukrainian students of urban planning and architecture from the universities of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odessa.

During the seminar, students explored the concept of „urban resilience“ and learned how to apply it in their work. The main focus was on the environmental, economic, and social aspects of this concept, as well as on analyzing international experience. Participants attended a series of lectures, worked with academic sources, and completed practical tasks. In the final part, they  will present the results of their research and propose recommendations for the sustainable development of Ukrainian cities. These recommendations are based on examples from cities such as Sendai, New Orleans, Helsinki, Rotterdam, Jerusalem, and Freiburg.

What is special about the workshop is the coming together and the direct exchange on site, which is particularly valuable in these difficult times, which are characterised by a lot of online teaching and little physical coming together.

The results of the seminar will be presented tomorrow (17.12.24) from 5 – 6.30 PM CET/ 6 – 7.30 EEST in the last lecture of our lecture series 5!
